Myofascial Release & Chronic Pain

A major focus of Mark’s osteopathic practice is myofascial release, a gentle hands-on approach that works with the body’s connective tissue system known as fascia.

Fascia is a continuous web of connective tissue that surrounds and supports muscles, joints, organs, and nerves throughout the body. When this tissue becomes restricted or strained, it can limit movement, alter biomechanics, and contribute to persistent pain patterns.

These restrictions can develop for many reasons, including:

  • Past injuries or repetitive strain

  • Poor movement patterns or postural habits

  • Surgical procedures

  • Physical or emotional trauma that the body continues to hold tension around

Over time, these restrictions can create compensations throughout the body, leading to chronic pain, stiffness, and dysfunction that may not respond to more localized treatments.

Through careful assessment and targeted myofascial release techniques, Mark works to identify and release areas of tension within the fascial system. By restoring mobility and balance within these tissues, the body is often able to move more freely and function with less strain.

Mark has developed a particular interest in working with more complex or persistent conditions, especially for people who feel they have “tried everything” without lasting relief. By addressing the underlying fascial restrictions that may be limiting how the body functions, treatment aims to support the body’s ability to adapt, regulate, and heal.

This approach is gentle, individualized, and always guided by the body’s response to treatment.
