Craniosacral Therapy

Mark Boutillier providing craniosacral therapy to his client in Mississauga

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, hands-on therapy that helps release tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance. The craniosacral system is the structural aspect of the central nervous system. It consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. This system extends from the occipital bone of the skull (the cranium) down into the sacrum (the bones located beneath the low back/ tailbone area of the spine).

Craniosacral therapy is a relaxing approach that uses very light touch and gentle movement of tissues and structures that make up the central nervous system, including the dural system (dura mater), the sacrum, and cranial bones of the skull. During a craniosacral therapy session, the practitioner applies light touch to the head and surrounding muscles to release restrictions and soft tissue tension, relieve pain, and promote healing. Clients often describe relief of compression in their head, neck, and back, as well as relaxation and improved sleep following treatment.
